Billy Fred Phillips, 63, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in Van Buren. He was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Fort Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
The body will be cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his companion, Melinda Hamilton; a daughter, Kristen Reynolds of Uniontown; three sons, Scottie Phillips of Atlanta, Jerry Phillips of Booneville and Jason Phillips of Lubbock, Texas; parents, J.W. and Doris Thorton of Fort Smith; a half brother, David Thorton of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.
I remember Billy coming to the basketball court at Parker School and playing basketball with us on occassion. He was a good friend to me.
