Susan Virginia Head Osoinach, age 73, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from complications due to cancer.  A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 8, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 2201 Speedway, followed by a graveside service at Rosemont Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

   Susan was born to Mary Julia Means and Howard Tanner Head on March 1, 1945 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.  She was raised in Stigler, Oklahoma and Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Susan graduated from Rhodes College in 1967 with a degree in French, and later received her Masters degree in French from Texas Tech.  She married John “Pat” Osoinach and had two children: a son, John, and a daughter, Ellen.

   A lifelong Presbyterian, Susan was a charter member of New Hope Presbyterian Church and an ordained elder in the PC(USA).  Her faith led her to become a staunch advocate for mission and social justice, both in the church and in the community.  She served as the moderator of Palo Duro Presbytery and wrote and graded ordination examinations for Presbyterian ministerial candidates.  In 2008 she served as a commissioner to the General Assembly of the PC(USA), where she spoke convincingly for the adoption of a new translation of the Heidelberg Catechism.  In 2012, she was elected by the General Assembly to serve on the Presbytery Mission Agency Board, chairing the Justice Committee and serving as the Board’s liaison to the Mission Responsibility Through Investment committee.  Susan served the community as a founding board of directors member for Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls, and she worked untold hours to organize and lead church mission trips to Mexico, building homes for the poor for over 15 years.  

   Susan was a energetic teacher and entrepreneur.  She taught high school French in both Burkburnett and Wichita Falls, and she provided freelance translating for both local businesses and in courtroom settings. Susan was an avid baker and had her own cookie business, Specialty Sweets, and taught children and friends the secret of making perfect iced cookies.  

   Susan lived an active and highly social life.  She was an accomplished musician, playing piano for her Sunday school class and fiddle in a local bluegrass band, Oral Tradition.  Susan loved singing in her church’s Sanctuary choir, where she especially enjoyed singing Handel’s Messiah.  Her love of gardening was well-known, as throughout her life she kept up a vegetable garden, a small orchard, and multiple flowering plants.  She had a sense of adventure and enjoyed traveling, even going zip lining in Costa Rica on her 70th birthday.  Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her beloved husband of nearly 50 years and their children.  For the past 14 years, she doted on her two precious grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and of whom she was always proud.

   Susan is survived by her husband, Pat; her son John and his wife Carolyn; her daughter Ellen and her spouse Erin; her two grandchildren, John Allen Osoinach and Rebecca Osoinach, and her brother, Jim Head.
