Leroy (Sonny) Kolb, Jr

Leroy (Sonny) Kolb, Jr

1944-10-26 1966-04-09
Found this on Find-A- Grave - Leoy Kolb, Jr. known to his family as 'Sonny' was the oldest child of Leroy, Sr and Edna Huey Kolb.

Leroy died in service to his country in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) in a helicopter crash. His tour of duty began on Dec. 11 1965 and he died on April 9, 1966. He served in Company D Troop, Regiment 4th Cav. batallion: 1st Sqdr. as a Private 1st class of the Army.

How well I remember Leroy! A tall, lanky guy with a wry sense of humor and a knack for putting a fastball across the plate with amazing effect, during our summer church league baseball days. Leroy's family and mine attended First Baptist Church in FSA all our school years. He was a good friend, steady and easy-going, and I loved occasional Sunday visits in his home for dinner and play after church. How shocked I was when I heard of his death in Vietnam -- the first of several of my friends who gave their all on the battlefield. High honors to you, Leroy ... may you rest in eternal peace.
