After graduation from NHS I attended the University of Arkansas. Two weeks after my graduation in 1967, I married Chester Lowe, Jr., an attorney from Little Rock. I taught school for two years, one in the DC area where we lived for a year and the other after returning to Little Rock. I left teaching to have my two children (Catherine and Mitchell) and was a stay at home mom, volunteer (Junior League, Second Presbyterian Church, my children’s schools, etc.) until they left for college. I found a career while volunteering at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (formerly ACRC). I became the Director of Volunteer Services/Auxiliary in 1991 (and later added the gift shop and Cancer Support Center) and have been there ever since. I love going to work every day. I have a wonderful staff and fabulous volunteers. Chester is still actively practicing law. We do love to travel and a lot of it is on trips with our children and their families and to see the grands participate in sporting activities. Catherine and her family (husband Kevin, Miriam 18 and Charlie 14) live in Bowling Green, KY. Our son, Mitchell and his family (wife Sarah Beth, sons Hartford 11, Bailey 9 and Hayes 3 1/2) live in Little Rock which is a blessing. We love being grandparents. It’s the BEST! Because of previous vacation plans I will only get to be at the reunion on Saturday but looking forward to seeing everyone.

Cathy and I are living in Martinsville, VA, where we are in the business of selling Contract Furniture. We are selling furniture to Senior Living facilities trying to make them look pretty. Who knows we may be in one of them someday and we want them to be really nice. I enjoy what we are doing, but I am begining to look forward to retirement. I feel that date is getting closer and closer. We have been blessed with a good life.

After our 30th reunion -- Transok, my Compay in Tulsa, was purchased by Enogex, a subsidiary of OGE Energy Corp. in June 1999. To follow my retirement I moved to Oklahoma City Thanksgiving week 1999. I retired as Senior Paralegal June 1, 2008 and have lived happily ever since. My life now centers on my church, Crossings Community Church, my home, two Siamese cats, volunteering, sewing, knitting, reading and puttering around the yard. The tomatoes and peppers have failed for the past three years so that's the end of the gardening. I have a part-time job as bookeeper for my homeowners association and do senior fitness exercises three times a week. Never thought I would like Oklahoma City, but I love it! THUNDER UP!

I was the quiet one in high school. After graduation from the U of A, I came to work for Conoco and met my wife in Ponca City, OK. She changed my life. We have now been married for 44 years and have 2 children and 3 wonderful grandchildren. I retired early in 2003 after working for Conoco for 35 years doing project development, refinery operations supervision and technical support in Lake Charles, LA and Ponca City. I recently came out of retirement and began some consulting work for an engineering company in Oklahoma City. Otherwise, my wife and I keep busy with activities at our church.

I graduated with one of Northside's greatest classes...the class of '63. After graduation, I started classes at Westark. In October of 1964, I married my high school sweetheart, Joretta Logan ('64). We have two children: Jeff ('85) and Kim ('86). Our kids have given us wonderful additions to the family: our daughter-in-law, Christy and son-in-law, Anthony. Joretta and I have eight grandkids! Over the years I have enjoyed several jobs in the automotive field and used that experience to open Mack's Auto Center in 1970, with my younger brother Dave. We are a full service center that sells parts and repairs on most all vehicle makes and models. We are able to offer towing and car wash services to our terrific customers. In our nearly forty-four years in the business, we have had the privilege and pleasure to take care Fort Smith as well as many of our classmates. Joretta and I enjoy traveling, church worship and activities, children, and especially the grandchildren. I also like an occasional ride on my horse, Goldie. I am looking forward to seeing the great classmates of '63. This reunion is going to be special, so don't miss our 50th! |

Occupation: | hay raker/ retired data collector /librarian |
Comment:
Attended UA-Fayetteville, where I met and married Jim, then moved to his family's dairy farm in northern Pulaski County. After graduating from UALR, I worked at the state library commission until '71, when he transferred to Arkansas Nuclear One, and I transferred from a paying job to volunteer jobs as a "stay-at-home" mom (oxymoron), active in PTA, Brownies, church, libraries, and band. Being a substitute classroom teacher lasted one day (all it took for 8th-graders to reduce me to tears!) After our two daughters went to college, I worked part-time for several years as a data collector for an Early Head Start study and spent 10 years (term-limited) on the Pope County Library Board, 8 years as chair. Since my husband's retirement, we spend a lot of time on the farm (another non-profit job), raising hay for sale (mostly to area horse owners,) attending tractor pulls (farm-type, not monsters), taking care of 5 "rescued" mutts, and attending most Razorback home football and basketball games. Both girls and the three grandkids (elementary age) live nearby, so we get to see them a lot, too. Current activities include Community Festival Chorale, county Republican women, a book club, church choir, altar guild, and shawl ministry. I'm a rarity: a conservative (!) Episcopalian. My hobbies include crochet, reading, especially mysteries and fantasy/sci-fi. (Favorite authors: C.S. Lewis, Ellis Peters, Tony Hillerman, J.A. Jance...), working sudoku puzzles, dabbling in genealogy and spending entirely too much time with computer solitaire.

I babysit grandchildren Avery 2 and Brayden 11 when I'm not out with FEMA on disaster assistance. I could use a little more time at home to finish the remodel I started 9 years ago. I do love those grandkids and travels, though. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1968 and moved to Colorado after spending a month at home in Arkansas without central air conditioning. I had a career in Human Resources with the State of Colorado. After first of three daughters was born, I stayed home with them doing contract work for the state and was elected State Personnel Board member, adjudicating appeals and making rules for state government (where my husband worked). After two six year terms I quit that to spend more time in real estate which I started in 1983. I also worked for our church for a time helping unemployed members find jobs. I started working for FEMA in 1996 after Katrina. It gives me a chance to run away from home and have maid service, and help people recover from disasters. We have three houses and 3 cars and need to downsize and simplify. I met Jerry after clumsily bumping into him at a huge singles party. I used to play bridge, paint in various mediums, ski, start quilts and don't finish them, sew. I'd like to get back to most of those things except skiing. I retired from FEMA when I had to put husband in nursing home with dementia. I couldn't be gone for months at a time. I go to senior center for lunch four days a week and play bridge several times a month. I garden, but hail this year is playing havoc with it. I still haven't finished quilts. I read a lot and stream TV series. |

My husband Paul and I have been married for 48 years. We have 3 sons: Paul II, Christopher, and Clint. We also have 3 grandchildren: Madison, age 13, Clay Michael, age 11, and Paul III (Trey), age 10. I retired in 2006, after 37 years in the classroom. I was not ready to retire, but our youngest son, Clint and his wife divorced, and he was given custody of his 2 children ages 3 and 17 months. Because he is certified Police and Fire at Fort Chaffee, and on 24 hour call, the Judge felt that the children should live with his Parents. As a result, the last 3 years I taught, I was getting babies ready for "Daycare", and caring for my husband who had lost his leg just 2 months before Madison and Clay moved in with us.
The children are older now, and Paul is doing well, so I was so very fortunate to be able to return to Cook Elementary, the school from which I retired. I taught 5th grade math last year. I will be teaching 6th grade nex year, and I'm loving very minute ot it!! |
